Aikido Shimbokukai Summer Seminar 2024 (In Person and Virtual)


Please join us June 14-16, 2024 at Aikido of Tamalpais, 142 Redwood Ave, Corte Madera, CA 94925 for the annual Aikido Shimbokukai Summer Seminar! We will have 3 days of training and fellowship, in person and also offering a virtual attendance option. REGISTRATION LINK BELOW, PLEASE SCROLL DOWN. For in-person training, space is limited so we will be accepting only full seminar registrations at this time (and virtual attendance registrations), and if space is still available closer to the seminar we will open registration for individual days. We will have 15 hours of training over the 3 days, taught almost completely by the 4 Shihan.

Seminar times are (ALL TIMES PACIFIC TIME):

Friday, June 14: 2:00-6:00 pm/Saturday, June 15: 9:00 am-12:00 pm & 2:00-6:00 pm/Sunday, June 16: 9:30 am-1:30 pm

There will be an opportunity for Shimbokukai members to take Dan grading examinations for those eligible and interested. Please contact us here.

Please register below. Registration for all 3 days, for 15 classes (14 of which will be taught by the 4 Shihan, including Hino Shihan from Hombu Dojo) is US$225. Registration to attend virtually is US$60. All proceeds will cover expenses to bring these amazing instructors together for everyone’s training experience. For those with financial constraints please let us know as we have a few scholarship options available.

2024 Summer Seminar Registration

Main Instructors

Special Guest Instructor: Terumasa Hino Shihan, 6 Dan, Aikikai Hombu Dojo

Terumasa Hino Shihan became a member of the Instructors’ Division of Aikikai Hombu Dojo in 2008. He teaches at Hombu Dojo as well as at universities, high schools, and other locations in the Tokyo area. Hino Sensei travels within Japan, as well as traveling overseas about three times a year, to teach classes and seminars.
We are happy to host him as very Special Guest Instructor for this event!


Hiroshi Ikeda Shihan, 7 Dan, Boulder Aikikai, Aikido Shimbokukai

Hiroshi Ikeda Shihan began Aikido at Kokugakuin University Aikido Club, of which Mitsugi Saotome Shihan was the chief instructor. After graduation he trained regularly at Aikido World Headquarters and in Saotome Shihan’s Reimeijuku Dojo in Tokyo. He established Boulder Aikikai in 1980 for the study of the Japanese martial art of Aikido.The dojo is affiliated with the Aikido World Headquarters in Tokyo, Japan, through the Aikido Shimbokukai. Ikeda Shihan is well-known for his effective technique, and travels extensively around the world teaching. He is a member of the Grading Committee and Vice-President of Aikido Shimbokukai.


​Guest Instructor: Kayla Feder Shihan, 7 Dan, Aikido of Berkeley, California Aikido Association

Kayla Feder Shihan is the dojo cho at Aikido of Berkeley. In 1973 at the age of 9 Kayla Sensei fell in love with Aikido and has been dedicated to growing in the art and training continuously ever since. For the first 20 years of her practice, she was greatly inspired by training under Morihiro Saito Shihan, who was one of the founder’s closest students. In 1980 Kayla Sensei traveled to Iwama, Japan to train with Saito Shihan as an uchi deshi. Since childhood she has also practiced with and been strongly influenced by Frank Doran Shihan, Robert Nadeau Shihan, and Hiroshi Ikeda Shihan. She has taught seminars throughout the US, Europe, and Israel. In addition to her Aikido accomplishments she received a Masters degree in Holistic Health Education from JFK University in 1998. She continues to dedicate herself to the daily process of changing and growing within herself and her practice and teaching of Aikido.


Lisa Tomoleoni Shihan, 6 Dan, Abiding Spirit Aikikai, Aikido Shimbokukai

Lisa Tomoleoni Shihan holds the rank of 6 Dan, received from Moriteru Ueshiba, Aikido Doshu. She spent over 14 years in Japan training at the Aikido World Headquarters and teaching Aikido professionally at a dojo in Tokyo. Tomoleoni Shihan is Director of Aikido Shimbokukai, an organization Officially Recognized by the Aikikai Foundation and Aikido World Headquarters in Tokyo, Japan. She also has yudansha ranking in Judo and Iaido and is a coauthor of the book "Along the Way", a collection of writings about training.


Kirk Scott Sensei, 5 Dan, Aikido of Tamalpais, Aikido Shimbokukai

Kirk Scott Sensei started training in Aikido at Michigan State University under Jongoon Kim Sensei in 1991, and was Wendy Palmer Shihan’s student from 1995- 2022. He currently holds the rank of 5th Dan from the Aikikai Foundation and Aikido World Headquarters (Aikikai, Hombu Dojo) in Tokyo, Japan.
